Try the Janet Evanovich number series for laugh-out-loud reading.
Not quite as funny as her number series, but her characters are described just great, and anyone at all interested in NASCAR will really get a big laugh out of this book.
Like Ludlum, the plot is convoluted. Characters are well drawn. This seems to be a cross between Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code) and Ian Fleming (The 007 series). Reference to Old World sites make it difficult to plot geographically, in today's map of Middle East.
Could have been so much better. The run across Siberia could have been as exciting as Sackajawea. Instead, it was dreary and gray. Characters were not much fun either. Don't bother.
Stalemate by iris Johansen Light reading to be sure and sometimes the plot stretches reality. This is one of Johansen's books featuring Eve Duncan who does forensic reconstructions from skulls. Overall a quick easy read.
Beautiful lies by Lisa Unger I enjoyed this book. It was well written, with a nice tight plot and a style that gave a nice feeling of intimacy with the main character. The mystery of the plot made it difficult to put down.

Cold Comfort: Life at the Top of the Map by Barton Sutter
An interesting view of living in Duluth, MN from a local author, and tells us why some would like it and others would just hate it.
The Testament by Eric Van Lustbader
